Your Questions, Answered
-
No. You remain aware, present, and in control throughout the session. Hypnotherapy is not sleep or mind control; it is a state of focused attention.
-
Most people can experience hypnosis. You don’t need to “try” or do anything perfectly; simply being open and willing is enough.
-
Yes. Most people remember the session clearly, even though it may feel deeply relaxing.
-
That’s completely okay. All work is collaborative and paced to your comfort. You can stop or change direction at any time.
-
Many people feel calm, grounded, or mentally clearer. Changes may feel subtle at first and often continue to develop over time.

Yes. At Solas Therapy, hypnotherapy is delivered in a trauma-informed, ethical, and professional way, with your safety and consent prioritised at all times.
-
Counselling sessions provide a supportive, confidential space to talk through what’s been going on for you. We work together to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and to develop insight, coping strategies, and practical ways forward.
-
No. Many people begin counselling feeling unsure where to start. We can take things one step at a time and focus on what feels most important for you in the moment.
-
Not necessarily. While past experiences may be explored when helpful, counselling is also focused on your current challenges and supporting positive change in the present.
-
This varies from person to person. Some people attend short-term counselling for a specific issue, while others benefit from ongoing support. We regularly review your goals and progress together.

Strong emotions are a normal part of therapy. Sessions are paced with care, and support is always provided to help you feel grounded and safe.
-
Yes. At Solas Therapy, counselling and hypnotherapy are often integrated to support change at both a conscious and subconscious level, always guided by your needs, consent, and comfort.

The number of sessions depends on individual circumstances and the type of issues being addressed.
For some, one session is enough especially for issues like smoking cessation, simple phobias, or confidence boosts.
If your issue is long-standing, emotional, or tied to trauma, expect to commit to multiple sessions for lasting transformation. Think of it like working out at the gym—one workout helps, but consistent training brings real, lasting change.

Currently, counsellors, hypnotherapists and psychotherapists are not eligible for Medicare numbers, which means Medicare rebates do not apply to sessions with me. The upside is that you don’t need a GP referral or Mental Health Treatment Plan, allowing you to book quickly and begin therapy without delays or waiting lists.
Many clients find that even with a Medicare rebate, the out‑of‑pocket cost for seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist is often similar to my fee, as their session rates can be significantly higher than the rebate amount.
If you would like your care to be coordinated, I am still happy to communicate with your GP or other health professionals with your consent to support your overall wellbeing.
